Born in Melbourne in 1933, Brian Kewley is an intellectual property lawyer and self taught artist. Best known for his colourful cityscapes and local beach and Bay scenes, his career as an artist was always secondary to his law practice. He was Vice President of the Contemporary Art Society in Melbourne from 1962 to 1968, and he exhibited with, and won prizes with the Contemporary Art Society. He also exhibited with the Victorian Artists Society. He exhibited in Melbourne from 1965 to 2006 wiith 28 solo exhibitions, mostly in Melbourne. After his retirement from law, he moved to the Mornington Peninsula where he has a gallery and vineyard.

The total number of works by Brian Kewley offered for sale by auction since 1978 is 43, of which 28 (65%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $3,525 for City and Bay sold by Christies in August 2003. This year one work has been offered for sale. Works by Brian Kewley are held by the National Gallery of Victoria and Queensland Art Gallery.
