Born in Manly, Sydney in 1945 Greg Weight was a freelance fashion photographer and then a tutor in photography at tertiaty level. From 1990 he became well known as a fine art photographer, especially for his photographic portraits of Australian artists. He has held 27 solo exhibitions since 1971, mostly in Sydney. He was the inaugral winner of The Citigroup Australian Photographic Portrait Prize in 2003 and the winner of Head On Alternative Photographic Portrait Prize in 2006. In 2012 he was a finalist and won the Peoples Choice Award in the Blake Prize for religious art with a haunting photograph of a church.
