Born in Bristol, England in 1929, James Holmyard studied in at the Royal West of England Academy for a year prior to his arrival in Australia in 1964, and is otherwise self taught. A traditional painter in oils, he settled in Brisbane and began painting professionally in 1968. He first exhibited in Brisbane the same year and since then has exhibited in Brisbane Sydney, Perth and Melbourne. He died in 2009.
