A New Zealand artist born in Dunedin in 1883, Ellen Von Meyern studied at the Elam School of Art specialising in portraiture. She mostly painted portraits of Maoris and people in the music and theatre worlds, and exhibited at the Auckland Society of Arts from 1901 to 1912, the Canterbury Society of Arts, the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts from 1898, the Otago Art Society and in the New Zealand International Exhibition of 1906.
We have records of art auction sales by Ellen Von Meyern from 1978 and in total 43 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 29 (67%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $7,716 for Maori Women and Children Cooking at a Geothermal Hangi Pit sold by Webb's in September 2003. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Ellen Von Meyern are held by the Art Gallery of Western Australia and Auckland Art Gallery.
