Born in England in 1930, Les Blakebrough arrived in Australia in 1948. Mainly a ceramic artist, he studied at East Sydney Technical College, and worked with potteries in Australia and Japan in the 1950s and 1960s. In the early 1970s he became a member of the Crafts Board. He was also appointed lecturer in ceramics at the Tasmanian CAE in Hobart. He has held many exhibitions in Sydney and Melbourne.

The total number of works by Les Blakebrough offered for sale by auction since 1987 is 74, of which 55 (74%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $11,590 for Large Assembled Form (From the Fortesque Bay Kelp Forest II Series) sold by Mossgreen Auctions in November 2011. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Les Blakebrough are held by the National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria and a further five major public national galleries (see list below).
