Jean Sindelar, was born in Liege, Belgium in 1941*. He studied graphic arts in Germany at the Academy of Fine Arts, and after arriving in Australia he settled at Condong in north-eastern New South Wales. In Australia, he studied with Buckmaster, Rowen and Loxton. His paintings of flora and fauna, in both sensitive watercolors and richly glazed oils, are represented in major collections, galleries and corporations both in this country and overseas. Jean Sindelar is particularly notable for his colourful and superbly detailed studies of majestic birds, spirited cats of the wild, rain forests and especially his interpretations of the sometimes bleak but always beautiful granite landscapes of outback NSW and Queensland. Sindelar was a member of the Australian Guild of Realists. He had sell out exhibitions in Osaka and Boston in recent years and his paintings are in collections in the USA, Saudi Arabia, Europe and throughout Australia. *According to some accounts Jean Sindelar was born in 1931, but liked to portray himself as younger than he really was.
