About James Goatcher
Born in the USA in 1879, James Goatcher arrived in Australia in 1890. He was apprenticed to his father, Philip Goatcher, a well known theatre scene painter. He studied art in Melbourne and Sydney, sharing living quarters with the Lindsay brothers.Goatcher became a watercolourist (known for his bush landscapes) and theatre scene painter, and exhibited his work in Perth and Adelaide.He won the Hotchin Watercolour Prize in 1950.
