Born in New South Wales in 1935, Jordan initially studied to become a teacher at the Balmain Teachers College between 1954 and 1955 before going onto study at the Sydney University. A painter and sculptor, he had no formal art training. He held his first one-man exhibition in Sydney in 1966 and has since exhibited widely in both one-man and group exhibitions throughout Australia, South East Asia, America and Europe. He has won many prizes and awards.

The earliest auction listing we have for Col Jordan is in 1971 and in total 53 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 29 (55%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $7,200 for Formula sold by Shapiro Auctioneers in May 2017. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Col Jordan are held by the Heide Museum of Modern Art, National Gallery of Australia and a further four major public national galleries (see list below).
