Born in Naracoorte South Australia in 1959, Deidre But-Husaim is a visual artist who has oil painting at the core of her practice. In 2014 she was selected as the recipient of the Inaugural Guildhouse Collections Project at the Art Gallery of South Australia. But-Husaim has been a finalist in numerous major Australian art prizes including the Doug Moran Portrait Prize, the Portia Geach Memorial Award, the Sulman Prize and the Archibald Prize. In 2013 she was the inaugural winner of the Tatiara Art Prize and also won the People's Choice in the Whyalla Art Prize. She has received various awards and grants From Arts SA and the Australia Council for the Arts to further her research and practice. But-Husaim regularly presents workshops at the Art Gallery of South Australia and lectures in painting at Adelaide Central School of Art. She has held several solo exhibitions in Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney, and is held in Artbank and in private collections both nationally and internationally. She presently lives and works in Adelaide.
