Born in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1888, Cora Wilding studied at the Canterbury School of Art in the late 1890s, then in England and later with Frances Hodgkins in Paris in 1908. She toured Tahiti, California and Europe from 1920 to 1925. She returned to New Zealand, living in Christchurch, and in 1948 she moved to Kaikoura in the South Island where she spent the remainder of her life. In 1952 she was appointed a member of the Order of the British Empire for services to the community.
