Born in Christchurch in 1934, Bill Moore studied at the University of Canterbury's fine arts school and teacher’s college before travelling by boat to Europe. There, he studied at the St Martin’s School of Art in London. He was admitted to New Zealand’s Canterbury Society of Arts while still in in his 20s. He became a teacher at primary, intermediate and secondary levels and then retired in 1987 to become a full-time artist, painting in oils, watercolours or acrylic. He exhibited throughout New Zealand, in London and Morgedal, Norway, and in art shows at the Hays Art Competitions in 1962, the Canterbury Society of Arts and the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts from 1958.
We have records of art auction sales by Bill Moore from 1996 and in total 70 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 63 (90%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $2,450 for Westland Farm, Franz Josef sold by Dunbar Sloane in May 2022. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Bill Moore are held by the National Gallery of Victoria.
