David Geoffrey Voigt was born in New Norfolk Tasmania in 1943. He studied at the Hobart School of Art from 1963 to 1965 and then taught at secondary level in Tasmania and Victoria from 1966 to the mid-1970s. He undertook a study tour to Europe in 1976. A landscape and figure painter in watercolour acrylic and pastel, his first solo show was in 1968 in Tasmania and since then he has exhibited in Melbourne, Adelaide and regional centres as well as participating in group shows. He was a finalist in the Art Gallery of New South Wales Wynne Prize in 1985.
