Born in 1914, Adolf Inkamala was a member of the Arunta tribe of Central Australia and was one of three brothers who were artists. He was one of the group of Aboriginal watercolour artists who painted in the Hermannsberg Mission in the Northern Territory and a founder of the Hermanns burg school, selling their paintings to the tourists at Alice Springs. He started painting about 1947 and exhibited in an exhibition in Alice Springs in 1951. As well as being a painter, he ran a cattle property on leased land on the Haasts Bluff Reserve. Many of his paintings were created west of Hermannsburg and his at his Haasts Bluff cattle lease.
