Born in Melbourne in 1908, Vernon Jones studied under W.B. McInnes, Bernard Hall, John Powell and Charles Wheeler. He is both a modeller and painter, and is well known for his works in the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, including dioramas and numerous major paintings of wartime events. He was a member of the Victorian Artists' Society.

The total number of works by Vernon Jones offered for sale by auction since 1977 is 29, of which 19 (66%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $9,000 for Air Chief Marshal Frederick, Rudolph, William Scherger KBE CB DSO AFC sold by Artemis Auctions in July 2009. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2022.
