Avital Sheffer was born in 1954 in Israel, where she practiced fashion and textile design, building design and town planning. She migrated to Australia in 1990, she turned to the making of ceramics and was awarded Diploma in ceramics from Lismore TAFE College in 2003. She has exhibited her ceramics across Australia and the USA, in solo shows since 2005 and in numerous group and invitational shows since 1999. She has won and been awarded numerous art awards and residencies some of the more recent being the Australia Council for the Arts, Skills and Arts Development grant in the Barcelona studio, and selection for the International Ceramic Biennale GICB19 Korea in 2019. She lives and works in Northern New South Wales.
