Known as a famous painter of Australian birds, Neville Cayley, Senior was born in Kent, England, in 1853. He painted game-birds, kookaburras, magpies and blue wrens, all characterised by fine brush-work and attention to detail. He was awarded a gold medal at the Chicago Exhibition in 1892. He signed his works 'Neville Cayley'.
