Born in Sydney in 1932, Connor studied art at the East Sydney Technical College. He began painting, sculpting and drawing full time in 1963, and apart from periods in Europe, the USA and the Middle East, he has lived and worked in Sydney all of his life. His paintings are largely concerned with the city and its people. Connor was awarded the Archibald Prize in 1975 and 1977, the Sulman Prize in 1991 and 1997 and the Dobell Drawing Prize in 1993.
