Evelyn Van Norman, (later Mrs E Roedell) was born Hamilton Ontario Canada in 1882 She studied at the Art Students League, New York City, under Max Weber and Maurice Sterne, in Paris and Berlin, and was a member of The Woodstock, New York Artist Colony. She worked extensively in Europe. She arrived Australia in 1939 where she worked as an editor, art historian, and lecturer.
