Born in England in 1855, George Carrington was tutored by his father, G. W. Carrington who was a painter and architect. He arrived in New Zealand and became a teacher at Otago. Carrington painted mainly in oils and exhibited in Dunedin from 1882 and Christchurch 1906-07.
We have records of art auction sales by George Carrington from 1994 and in total 44 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 34 (77%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $2,695 for Extensive Scene, Port Chalmers' sold by Cordy's in February 2017. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by George Carrington are held by the Museum Of New Zealand.
