Born in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England in 1809, Thomas Flintoff worked in England, USA, Mexico and Polynesia before arriving in Victoria in the 1850s. He lived intitially in Ballarat where he set up a photographic studio and later in Melbourne, where he also set up a studio. He was also a painter working in oils, and created numerous portraits of the notable citizens of the time, as well as painting landscapes. He exhibited with the Victorian Academy of the Arts in 1872 and 1873.Flintoff died in 1891.
