Ethel Jackson Morris (1891-1985) was an Australian illustrator who was born into a well-to-do family in 1891. Her father, James Jackson Morris, owned several properties, including a cattle stud in Clarendon Eyre, named after their family home in Malvern, and a property in Bulleen near the Yarra River. She attended the National Gallery School Art School in Melbourne from 1910 to 1920, where she exhibited her works and collaborated with artists such as Harold Gaze and Ethel Spowers. At the age of 17, Ethel Morris published her first book for children in 1909. She contributed her work to Dame Nellie Melba's book of Australian art and literature in 1915, and her second book, released in 1921, was well-received by critics. In the same year, she held a solo exhibition at the Fine Art Society's Gallery. Ethel Morris travelled to Europe in 1922, where she studied at the Royal Academy of Art and visited Paris, possibly where she met her future husband. After returning home, she settled in Sydney in 1923 and married Captain John Overton in 1930. Unfortunately, there is no further information about her life after 1930.
