Born 'Beatrix Dobbie' in New Zealand in 1887, this artist later changed her name to Beatrix Dobie. She left New Zealand to study overseas in 1911 at the Slade School of Art, returning about 1919. She exhibited her paintings many of them of horses with the Canterbury Society of Arts from 1919-1926, and illustrated conservationist H Guthrie-Smith's book Tuitira, the Story of a New Zealand Sheep Station.. In 1926 Dobie married Rene Vernon in Tunisia.
