Michael Zavros was born in 1954 in Brisbane. He studied at the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University where he was awarded a Bachelor of Visual Arts degree with a Double Major in Printmaking in 1996. He has won three major Australian drawing prizes: the 2002 Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award, the 2005 Robert Jacks Drawing Prize and the 2007 Kedumba Drawing Award. In 2010 he was awarded the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize ,In 2012 Michael Zavros was awarded the inaugural Art Gallery of New South Wales Bulgari Art Award. He has been a multiple Art Gallery of New South Wales Archibald Prize finalist. Michael Zavros has been the recipient of several international residencies including in New York, Milan, Barcelona and Paris. He has exhibited Australia and New Zealand, and overseas in Los Angles, Hong Kong.

The highest price recorded for the artist is $79,773 for Spring / Fall II 2004 sold by Smith & Singer in April 2021. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023.
