A sculptor and teacher, Tom Bass was born in New South Wales in 1916. He studied in Sydney under Datillo Rubbo and, after serving as an army records officer during World War II, at the National Art School. Amongst his work is the statue 'Ethos' in Canberra's Civic Square and the huge relief sculpture in copper at the Australian National Library. In 1976 he started a sculpture school at Broadway in Sydney.
