Born in Sydney in 1951, Ken Searle has had no formal art training. His style has been described as a mixture of realism, surrealism and a semi-naive, often depicting historical subjects. He has exhibited since 1976, From 1998 to 2001 he worked as a consultant at the school in the Aboriginal community of Papunya in central Australia, the place where the Western Desert Art Movement originated. During his time there he produced many works depicting the local landscape. In 2005 he assisted in producing two books based on his time in the Papunya community.
