Born about 1895, Alma Figuerola attended the art school established by the Melbourne 'tonalist' Max Meldrum (1875-1955). She graduated from his school in 1920, participating in her first group exhibition in the same year. She painted figure studies and portraits, and solo exhibitions of her work were held at the Meldrum Gallery in 1933, at the Athenaeum Gallery in 1937 and 1945, and at Georges Gallery in 1951. She became an Associate member of the Twenty Melbourne Painters group in 1935 and also held art classes in her studio. She was a finalist in the Art Gallery of New South Wales Archibald Prize in 1932, 1935, 1942 and 1943.
