Born in Lithuania in 1922, Vincas Jomantas arrived in Australia in 1949. He had studied in Lithuania with his father, at the School of Fine Arts in Vilnius and in Munich. He was an abstract sculptor working with wood and metal, and held his first exhibition in 1957. In the 1950s and 1960s he received numerous commissions. Retropsective exhibitions of his work were held at the McClelland Gallery outside Melbourne in 1990 and 2003.
