Born in Melbourne in 1972 was awarded a Bachelor of Arts from La Trobe University and a Diploma from the Photographic Studies College in Melbourne in 1995. A photographer of urban subjects and film maker, he also travelled to East Timor for a photographic essay of the military involvement. In 2005/6 he was awarded an Australia Council Tokyo Studio Residency, and in 2010 won the Siemens/RMIT Art Award in Melbourne. He has exhibited extensively throughout Australia and overseas.

The total number of works by Matthew Sleeth offered for sale by auction since 2003 is 29, of which 7 (24%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $4,216 for Pictured #29 (Tokyo) sold by Mossgreen Auctions in September 2017. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2020.
