About Alkis Astras
Born in Greece, Alkis Astras studied widely in Europe prior to his arrival in Australia. He is a practising architect who is known for his realist style of painting. Born in Athens he grew up in the dark days of the Second World War and the Greek Civil War. The house in which he has born,facing the Acropolis,was used as headquarters both by the enemy and by the Allies during the war. He held his first personal exhibition in 1954, and since that time has never ceased to create and exhibit.
Since 1970 we have recorded only one work being sold at auction by this artist, which was in 1979.
