Born in Christchurch in 1945 and studied at the University of Canterbury, gaining a Diploma in Fine Arts with Honours. His early career was spent in art education as a teacher and examiner, but became a full time artist in later years due to the demand for his paintings. Brian Strong is known as a semi abstract landscape artist, often using collage and mixed media and has exhibited in New Zealand since 1965.

We have records of art auction sales by Brian Strong from 1997 and in total 74 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 57 (77%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,750 for Nikau Icon 5 sold by Watson's Auctioneers in April 2007.
