Artist and picture framer Stephen Tandori was born in Metkovic, Yugoslavia in 1936, settling in Melbourne in 1959 as a political refugee. A floral artist, he studied under Alan Bernaldo. He had various jobs for a year or two before taking up picture framing and art restoration. In 1975 he moved to Sydney to establish Seascape Galleries. He returned to Melbourne after 15 years and took up painting as a professional artist, residing on a farm in Baxter on the Mornington Peninsula.

The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,100 for Still Life, Mixed Flowers sold by Aust. Art Auctions in July 1996.
