Born in England in 1894, Withers was the daughter of artist Walter Withers (1854 - 1914). She studied at the Working Men's College in 1913 and the National Gallery School, Melbourne. A landscape artist and portraitist painting mainly in oils, she was a member of Twenty Melbourne Painters, founded in 1918. She also taught at secondary level from 1913 to 1922 and at Swinburne Technical College from 1920 to 1928.
