Born in Shepparton, Victoria in 1897, Elma Roach studied at the national Gallery School, Melbourne under Bernard Hall and W B McInnes, and in Europe in 1924. A painter in oil and watercolour, Roach's work is represented in the Queensland Art Gallery and regional collections.
