Jobson entered the ministry in 1834, served most of his career in England, but visited Australia in 1861. A lengthy description of this visit is included in 'Jobson's Australia, with notes by the way, of Egypt, Ceylon, Bombay, and the Holy Land' (London, 1862) which includes watercolours and sketches of Australian views and coastlines. The frontispiece of the book is after one of the watercolour sketches he made on the voyage, Sydney from the North Shore and the original is held by the National Library of Australia.
