Born in Auckland in 1904, Rex Fairburn was a landscape painter, poet and writer who studied at the University of Auckland Elam School of Fine Arts, and lectured there in his later years. He exhibited with the Auckland Society of Arts in 1946 and the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts in 1935.
