Born in Ireland in 1842, Kate Streeter arrived in Australia as a child. Her work first gained public recognition in 1869 when she painted the Very Rev. Dean Hayes for St Augustine's orphanage in Geelong. Other commissions followed. She married Dr J. Streeter in 1878, and in the same year exhibited at the Paris Universal Exhibition. She taught for the Victorian Education Department and privately in Melbourne prior to moving to Brisbane in 1921.

Since 1970 we have recorded only one work being sold at auction by this artist, which was in 1978.
