Born in Cumbria, England in 1920, Peascod worked as a coal miner before migrating to Australia in 1952. His early abstract-expressionistic paintings reflect his coal-mining and mountaineering experiences in England. He won a number of prizes at art shows in provincial New South Wales and in 1970 won the Mosman Art Prize.
We have records of art auction sales by William Peascod from 1974 and in total 101 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 60 (59%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $2,880 for Night Landscape sold by Shapiro Auctioneers in March 2021. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by William Peascod are held by the Art Gallery of Western Australia, National Gallery of Australia and a further three major public national galleries (see list below).
