Kate Beynon was born in Hong Kong 1970 and arrived in Australia in 1974. She completed the first year of a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Melbourne 1989 and the following year completed an Advanced Certificate of Art and Design at Prahran College. In 1993 she completed a Bachelor Chinese of Fine Art at the Victorian College of the Arts and complemented this in 1995 with a Short Studies course at the Beijing University of Technology. She was awarded a PhD in Fine Art by Research, by Monash University, Melbourne in 2017. Her first solo exhibition was in Melbourne in 1993 and since then she has also exhibited in Sydney, Brisbane, Christchurch, as well as in numerous group exhibitions. She has been a finalist in Art Gallery of New South Wales Archibald Prize in 2010, 2011,2012 and 2014 and three editions of the S.H. Ervin Gallery Portia Geach Memorial Award in Sydney. Kate Beynon lives and works in Melbourne.
