Born in 1918, Nelson Thompson studied at Central and Chelsea Art Schools, London. A painter and teacher, he was known for his landscape and floral paintings. He was employed as an art teacher. and lecturer for many years, but he always exhibited. on a regular basis. In his later years he held regular one-man shows in Auckland. His paintings are also held in the collections of the Fletcher Trust, Air New Zealand and Nestles. His work underwent huge changes between his early studies of the 1950s and his late acrylics of the 1980s.

Our database records art auction sales of works by Nelson Thompson from 1990 and in total 52 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 28 (54%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $5,440 for St. Stephens Chapel and Yard, Parnell sold by International Art Centre in July 2004.
