Baku Rei was an Australian Aboriginal traditional artist from the Wulagi people on the Crocodile Islands. He was also a medicine man and ceremonial leader. He was admired for his bark paintings. He also carved ceremonial hollow logs for the mortuary ceremonies which he conducted. Rei Baku was active during the 1960s, and has since died.
The total number of works by Baku Ray offered for sale by auction since 1995 is 18, of which 12 (67%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $2,880 for Lorrkon, c. 1950 sold by Deutscher and Hackett in October 2009. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2022. Works by Baku Ray are held by the Art Gallery of Western Australia.
