Teacher and printmaker L. Roy Davies was born in 1897. He studied under Julian Ashton and Elioth Gruner, before meeting Lionel Lindsay in 1921. Lindsay, a master engraver, encouraged Davies to work in both wood and Iino-cutting techniques, which he then employed on a commercial basis in the Smiths and Julius Studios, Australia's first advertising studios. He exhibited at Tyrrell's and with the New South Wales Society of Artists. He was the first principal of the National Art School. An impeccable printer, Davies is recognised as being second only to Lionel Lindsay in his craft.

In our database, 82 works by Roy Davies are listed as being offered for sale, the earliest in 1976, of which 55 (67%) were sold.
