John Hinge was born near Bordertown South Australia in 1957. he showed an interest in art from an early age and after finishing school, completed an industrial design course at the Underdale College of Advanced Education. He became a professional painter in 1981 at the age of 24, and since then has held exhibitions of his work annually, has won several awards and prizes, and is now represented in numerous private and corporate collections, both nationally and overseas.

We have records of art auction sales by John Hinge from 1982 and in total 43 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 32 (74%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,549 for Morning Purnog sold by Theodore Bruce Auctioneers & Valuers in November 2005.
