Born in Adelaide in 1903, Loxton studied at the National Gallery School, Melbourne, and at Swinburne Technical College. He was an art critic for several Melbourne daily newspapers in the 1940s, and travelled and worked in Europe from 1948 to 1950. A noted watercolourist, he has exhibited widely, including an exhibition in the Qantas Gallery, London, in 1956.
