Born in Ballarat in 1935, ceramic artist.Gwyn Hanssen Pigott attended Ballarat and Clarendon College and then studied at Melbourne University before leaving for Britain, where she worked with leading potters, including Ray Finch, Bernard Leach and Michael Cardew. She set up studio in London's Portobello Road in 1960 and later in Acheres, France, quickly establishing herself as an interenationally known ceramic artist. She returned to Australia in the 1970s, settling in south-east Queensland. She has exhibited widely throughout Australia and overseas. She was awarded an Order of Australia medal in 2002.
