Born in 1926 in Paris from Austrian parents, Edith Van Haandel grew up in Vienna where she studied art. She worked as a commercial artist and continued studies in Edinburgh, Scotland. In 1953 she moved to Christchurch and studied figure drawings with Russell Clarke and printmaking with Michael Read and Dennis Coupland. She has exhibited in Australia and held for other solo exhibitions in CSA Christchurch and at the Bealey Gallery Her figure studies, flower paintings, portraits and landscapes are now well known and hang in mini private collections in Vienna, London and Edinburgh as well as Christchurch.
Since 1970 we have recorded only one work being sold at auction by this artist, which was in 1996.
