A leading supporter of avant-garde painting in Sydney, Rah Fizelle was born in New South Wales and studied at Julian Ashton's in Sydney from 1921 to 1926 and the Westminster Art School, London in 1927. He was a teacher at secondary level before and after World War I, during which he served with the AIF. After 3 years in London from 1927 he returned to Sydney, and started his own art school, teaching Abstract art in 1934. From the early 1930s he exhibited in London and Sydney.
