Born in Beijing in 1960, Chinese-Australian artist Ah Xian studied in China prior to his arrival in Australia in 1989. Now living and working in Sydney, Ah Xian is a sculptor who works in cloisonne, porcelain, concrete, fibreglass, bronze and latex, and is best known for his figurative work. He has exhibited widely including in Brisbane, Melbourne, Hobart, Adelaide and Sydney, and overseas including Germany, The Hague and the United States.
The earliest auction listing we have for Ah Xian is in 2002 and in total 15 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 15 (100%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $180,000 for Human, Human (Bust 5) sold by Sotheby's in August 2009. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Ah Xian are held by the Queensland Art Gallery, National Gallery of Australia and a further four major public national galleries (see list below).
