Born in Huddersfield, England in 1939, David Blackburn attended the local grammar school and then studied at the Royal College of Art, London. An extensive traveller, he has spent several periods in Australia lecturing at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Melbourne University and the Australian National University. In 1981 he was visiting professor at Georgetown University in Washinton D.C. He has exhibited widely in Australia, America and Britain.
