Born in Geelong, Victoria in 1928, Bill Salmon studied at the Swinburne Technical College from 1946 to 1949, the George Bell School in Melbourne in 1968 and the Royal Melbourne Institute of technology where he studied industrial design in 1969. He also studied at the Slade School, London, and the Academia di Belle Arti, Florence. He taught art at the Adelaide School of Arts and Crafts from 1953 to 1958 and the East Sydney Technical College from 1958 to 1964. A painter of figurative landscapes in oil, acrylic and watercolour, he held regular exhibitions from 1961.
