Born in London, U.K. in 1956 Nicholas Harding arrived in Australia in 1965. After studying for his Bachelor of Arts in 1975, he travelled to Europe and the United Kingdom in 1977. A painter and printmaker he has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows. He won the Art Gallery of New South Wales Archibald Prize in 2001, and was a finalist for thirteen consecutive years from 1994 to 2006, as well as in 2009, 2011, 2016 and 2017. He was also a finalist for the Sulman Prize in 1981, 2003, 2006 and for the Wynne Prize in 1994,1996,1998 and 2003 and the winner of the Dobell Prize in 2001.
